Ignite the Flame of Happiness

Inspirational Quote

Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.

~ Buddha

The Psychology Minute (Philosophical Food for Thought)

The Buddha’s quote helps us to think. Have we done something today to bring happiness to another?

You cannot turn around without seeing a plethora of judgment coming at us from every direction. From Social Media, to Traditional Media, Real News… Fake News? Is there such a thing… or is it all just opinion anyway? to a doctors diagnosis, even down to the judgements passed by all races, religions, nationalities, professions, creeds of origin, etc., etc., etc. As I watched 22 television sets this morning at my local gym, this quote stood out to me, and I instantly realized, that I do not know of any one place a person can turn and not be inundated by an immense and unsurmountable degree of judgment.

All the great teachers sought to inspire others. They sought to bring happiness to others. This led me to the natural question:

What can we do to ignite the flame of happiness in others?

I once heard that even God reserves the right for judgement at our final day.

This perplexed me. Who are we to judge before then? Yet everywhere I look, I see degrees of judgement being handed down from those who seek not to be judged. I am reminded of Lincoln’s famous quote…

Let us judge not, that we be not judged

Abraham Lincoln

In today’s quote, we examine words of wisdom from Buddha. When we judge, we impart onto others that which housed only within us. Instead of judgment, seek to inspire.

What is it that you see? What great benefit can you elicit from the entity you seek to judge? A thousand candles can be lit from one single flame. Do you want that flame to be used in judgment, or in service to aspirations yet to be realized? As Buddha said, happiness never decreases by being shared.

It only takes one flame to ignite a passion that transcends all bounds. What’s Your Passion? What flame have you ignited today? Have You Shared it?

Believe, Achieve, and Advance Confidently in the Direction of Your Dreams.
