Thanksgiving for Newly Divorced Parents

Inspirational Quote

After having children, life becomes about living beyond yourself; about being bigger and better.

Jaclyn Smith

The Psychology Perspective

In this quote, Jaclyn Smith reminds us that when we have children, we need to move from an ego-centric viewpoint to a viewpoint inclusive of teaching our children the morals and values we hold dear. In this video, I explore the concept of practical parenting and ways to overcome holiday related stress, as Thanksgiving is soon to arrive for newly divorced families.

In a recent article titled Thanksgiving For Divorced Parents by Maples Family Law, our team tackled the tough topic of things you can do while spending your first holiday alone. This video will be helpful for those who have recently undergone a change in custody arrangement or divorce. In this video, I give the psychology perspective about things you can do to maximize your holiday while minimizing the stress your children may face while spending a holiday with your former spouse.

The key here is not to put your children in the middle of the conflict, but to normalize the need they will have to establish an independent and loving relationship with both you and your former spouse.

Are you undergoing a divorce? Is there conflict present? I welcome your thoughts, comments, and any questions you may have about the effects divorce can have on a child’s development, and what you can do to minimize its effects.

Thank you. I have watched most of this and it will become the source of my next video. I was also a product of divorce, 4 at the time. It is a lifelong event, memorialized I time, but stands as a foundation for why I bring this subject to the forefront. I am a firm advocate for practical parenting.

      • We share that path also, Tom.

I had 16, and it was such a roller coaster mostly because I could see how much irresponsibility. The emotional and financial implications that betrayal behavior and deceive brought to my family were too high. Anyway, we survived. 🙂

        I don’t wish this to anyone…

It is a heartfelt learning experience that forms some of those glowing embers in the ash of our past that become the igniting flame of Self Realization. Thank you for sharing.
