The Internal Power of Hope

Inspiration

What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Depth Psychology Perspective

The more I practice psychology, the more I see the reality we create is dependent upon the perspective we assume.

Mental health has a negative connotation. That is most likely due to the primary focus of mental health practitioners treating “mental disorders.” This is where a difficult paradox occurs. We view the mental as something being outside of our control. We view it as being “Disordered,” or if you ever went to see a mental health practitioner, they have to diagnose you with some “disorder” behavior in order to be paid by medical insurances. This should not be.

Our overall health is an interesting concept. A common perspective arises in the US, that we should only see a doctor when things are going wrong, and a cure needs to be attained. This perspective underlies the reason why mental health has a bad wrap amongst so many.

What if we changed the perception of what it means to be in a healthy emotional space? What if we remove the mental out of mental health, and replace that one word with emotional. What would it mean to be emotionally healthy, emotionally free? I think we would have a revolution of consciousness.

Ralph Waldo Emerson reminds us of that golden essence that lies within each and everyone of us. The Self shutters self limitations imposed by the persona we create. Who do you want to become? How do you want to get there?
