Today is a day of love. But where did this day come from. The Holiday owes its origins to the Roman Festival Lupercalia. This festival celebrated the coming of spring, celebrated fertility, and paired together men and women through a lottery system. In the mid 5th century, Pope Gelasius I replaced this Roman celebration with a feast of purification which he named after St. Valentine.

What a wonderful history. The pairing of men and women, a feast of purification, a celebration of Spring, the renewal of Earth, and even those dormant dreams the soul stirs into our waking consciousness.

Valentines Day is a day to reflect, upon that which is most prevalent in our life. Love. There is only one true emotion; all others arise in union with, or degrees of antithesis of this core human emotion. It is what links us to the divine, and purifies our conscious intent.

In former articles, I have explored how it is God’s intent that we partake in creation. Not just in the essence of our will to create new life, but also in the core essence of consciousness to create and re-create itself.
