Dreams… The Royal Road to Unexpected Success

If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

Henry David Thoreau

Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.

The Philosopher’s Corner

Every foundation begins with a dream. If one advances confidently towards it, his or her life will one day become what was only imagined within the contents of that dream.

Perhaps this is why Dr. Martin Luther King gave his speech focused on the power of dreams. He didn’t say “I have an idea.” Nor did he say “a thought occurred to me.” These are too passive to the point across he needed to make. Instead, like Henry David Thoreau, he enlisted the power of dreams to tap directly into the sub-conscious aspects of the human psyche to go deep inside, in order to elicit emotional grit needed to undertake his dream’s journey. The power of manifesting a dream to this nature changes not only the person that has it, but in the case of Dr. King’s dream, the reality of a nation that would follow it. How powerful is that?

Dreams are a royal road to unforeseen and oftentimes unexpected success. But they must be confronted head on, and advanced confidently towards in order to see their fruits become reality. This creates a paradox of fear and hope, a means by which psyche can reach to ever soaring heights, break the barriers of what was, in order to realize what can become possibile.

Today, we face an unprecedented amount of fear. This can only be overcome by an unprecedented amount of dreaming. But in order to dream, we have to tap back into that individual and collective aspects of the psyche that Thoreau and Dr. King knew so intimately, so that we can foster the courage needed to develop understanding, even if that understanding exists outside the box we have placed ourselves within so long ago.

Maybe, just maybe, this time that we all have, can create the space needed to re-ignite an inner passion for dreaming, so that we too can one day reap the fruits that bear understanding not only for the current problems we face, but also, just maybe, develop a deeper, ecological understanding, of one another along the way. Wow, what a beautiful way to elicit the power of a dream.
