A Father’s Guide to Wisdom
Wow, how the world has changed! On March 17, I wrote an article Inspiration: Faith… We Will Weather the Storm. At that time, little did I know the actual storm we would find ourselves in the midst of nearly five months later. I am almost speechless, as I look back and reflect upon what was, to be still with the present moment, and welcome what will become.
Yesterday I found myself engaging a fear and going to prison to conduct my work in forensics. Enclosed settings like jails, prisons, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities are hotspots for diseases like COVID 19 to spread at a rapid rate. Because these populations are enclosed and have limited movement to escape pathogens, it may come into contact with; once a disease implants itself in these settings, it is hard to control, let alone to treat and rid these settings of its presence. However, with faith, hope, and a simple will to persevere, I know that we can weather any storm.
There is a delicate balance to nature. From the darkest point of night arises the dawn. From the strongest of hurricane-force winds arises an eerie calm in its destructive wake. I cannot help but believe that this is God speaking to us directly, in a language that invites us to take an active part in our lives.
From the dead grasp on winter’s darkness arises the light, airy nature of spring’s rejuvenation. Like the season’s, we also undertake a journey of life, death, rebirth, and continual growth towards the nurturing source above us. As Mr. Douglass and Gandhi remind us, we need to weather these storms, keep the faith, and withstand the most pressing of life events. For it is in this process, that we create the very means by which our life story unfolds upon itself. What story do you have left untold?
