Inspirational Quote
One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.
Henry Ford
A Depth Psychology Perspective
Profound wisdom exists in Henry Ford’s citation here. The foundation of life is based upon a search. As soon as we begin to realize the state of existence, we search for meaning. Whether that meaning is found in our social relationships, our job, our marriages, or in the brevity of the child-rearing experience, the search for personal meaning is a foundational human truth. But what does it take to realize this aim?
This week, I explored courage as a virtue. In fact, without courage, no other virtue or even value for that matter can be practiced.
Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.
Maya Angelou
If we take the poet’s and the capitalist’s word for it, we must nurture courage as a character trait to build upon all other values present. By stepping up to unknown situations, adapting, and overcoming the obstacles present, we foster a successful outcome. At a minimum, we practice problem-solving skills. It is from this perspective that we mature into confidence, self-esteem flourishes, the cornerstone from which all other virtues will arise.
Namaste, my friends. May blessings and virtue find you on your journey to believe, achieve, and advance confidently in the direction of your dreams.
