A rising prevalence of dementia is sweeping the globe. In an article from The Economist, The Rising Prevalence of Dementia is a Global Emergency, researchers have found that “1.7% of 65- to 69-year-olds have dementia and the risk of developing it doubles every five years after that.” While the news is bleak, its cause is something of a modern-day miracle that owes its existence to the nearly doubling of our life span over the past century. What can we do?

Well, the best medicine is always preventative. Eat healthily, make sure to engage in plenty of exercises, and limit sources of toxins to your system. Engage in mindfulness exercises, and make sure to create balance and flow in your body, mind, and spiritual health. However, for those who have a loved one with Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, interventions and resources can help. 

Based on conversations with families across the US, it can be overwhelming and heartbreaking when a senior is diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimer’s; many questions arise, especially since each situation is unique.
