A Father’s Guide to Wisdom
To be, or not to be. That is the question, right. But what does it mean to be? What inner storehouse of wisdom must we tap, to realize our full potential? Let us explore.
Children have a natural gift of curiosity present at their birth. Their willingness to engage the environment without fear is something to truly revere. But consequences exist for this form of consciousness. To realize our inner potential, we must learn to navigate both the paradise so common to childhood, and the hell that does blatantly surrounds our adult form of being. The real-world dangers are as real of a concept as hope that inspires us, but it is up to us which fire we wish to stoke.
Childhood curiosity is a gift, especially to an adult. It symbolizes a return to innocence, an inner capacity to dream, and an ability to use the creative force to drive our life forward to the essence of those very dreams that call upon us to take flight.
When the capacity to dream is lost, a clinical picture of despair becomes entrenched. As a psychotherapist, I find that it is necessary to re-engage the imagination to re-engage life in a manner directed with hope. No, not all dreams come true, but the foundation of having a direction to move towards creates the very movement needed by the psyche to lift itself out of the dark recesses it can place itself within.
Mrs. Roosevelt was on to something when she looked to the power curiosity has on the life course of the person. As for the wise man, that Dr. that fueled the imagination of countless children, he reminds us that in chasing our curiosity, we somehow become that which we will be. To be, what a wonderful gift of life. What heights will your curiosity take you today?
