Raising the Next Generation

Inspiration

Someone once said that every man is trying to live up to his father’s expectations or make up for their father’s mistakes…

Barack Obama

A Depth Psychology Perspective

I don’t normally dialogue in politics. Especially the lived form of this most dividing of subjects. My grandfather taught that one should assume responsibility for one’s beliefs while maintaining an open willingness to dialogue towards a middle ground. However, when I come across a beautiful quote from a person that gets it, even if they are a living politician, I have to give credit where credit is due.

In this citation, President Obama gets the complexity of the father and child relationship. We are here to raise the next generation, not watch the grass grow. Expect high and watch your children achieve high. Hell, aim for the moon is the way the quote goes. Expect low, or even worse, set a bar for no expectations, and the path is clear. It doesn’t take much work to achieve the open arms of the streets.

History is a subject from which to learn. That is the beauty of love through lived experience that fathers have over their children. How do you want your children to remember you? One thought is, practice a bit of loving-kindness today!

Namaste, my friends. May blessings find you on your journey to advance confidently in the direction of your dreams.
