Faith is built upon Hope. Hope in something greater than what is present. But hope cannot exist in a vacuum without belief; and that belief is built upon a foundation of inner values that made us who we are, right here, right now. At the core of every human being is the values they are or are not raised with; this is the topic I will dive into this week. For values form one of the four pillars of success.
Values are highly individualized constructs from which a person aligns to direct their life. You can easily tell a person’s values from their actions, for actions speak much louder to the personality than mere words. At the core of any profound change exists the foundation from which it is built. Give it a shaky foundation, and watch the tree tumble over. Build it upon a strong foundation, and watch the tree bear enough fruit for all to share. But this is not a lazy person’s game, for excellence is never attained by an arm chair quarterback or one unwilling to grind to create value in their life.
Half assed action equals half assed results. Pursuit of Perfection equals excellent results. The choice is clear, but not written in stone. We are the sum total of the values we held dear, but those values can change, with just one commitment to do something different today. It wont be immediate, but it will begin to shift the pendulum to build the life you want, not the life you had.
Perhaps that is the lesson in today’s quote from Coach Lombardi. Perfection is not attainable; but in chasing it, we create a level of excellence in the wake of the hard work it takes to manifest this form of greatness. To Be or Not to Be… That is a question based upon the mark of core values. Perhaps the true questions should be: What do you want to be? What will you do to get there?
