As a psychotherapist, I have come to realize in my work with clients that mental health entails perspective. We each have a past, are governed by our present, and strive to a future.
Melody Beattie reminds us that gratitude is an essential element in learning how to develop into a Self-realized state. By being grateful, we can overcome the demons of our past abuses and transgressions. It is there, and we can carry it as baggage to weigh us down, or prompt us forward. As we move towards the present, this baggage can bring a sense of peace, contentment, and the capacity to let go in order that we may move on to bigger and better dreams.
