The Depth Psychology Perspective

This weeks topic is Hope. What a powerful construct for depth psychology to understand. What gives us Hope?

Well, lets start with the key component of any mental health problem. A lack of Hope. So if we can define mental disorders as a sense of hopelessness, why do we spend so much time focusing on that which is absent from our life, and not enough time nurturing those activities that foster the very thing that will allow us to transcend from the depths of hopelessness that seems prominent in this era of loneliness?

Let us explore.

Hope is linked to desire. The root of the word desire is to hope for, to wish, a will to bring into existence. But what we often lack in a clear definition of the word hope, is the action needed to make that which is etherial present in our current life circumstances.

It is one thing to yearn, to wish, to wait for what the stars will bring. It is another to take control of that destiny, and shoot towards your dreams. Yes, it takes hard work, but the journey through perseverance will be a reward within itself.
