We still do not know one thousandth of one percent of what nature has revealed to us.
Albert Einstein
When nature has work to be done, she creates a genius to do it.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
The Philosopher’s Corner
With the fall into consciousness, it is said that humankind began to know the nature of reality as God does. At least this is what is written in the Book of Genesis, that story of creation that underlies the Judaeo – Christian Religion. But this is where it becomes somewhat convoluted. From this foundational story, a philosophical conundrum emerges, which creates the very nature of the reality we wish to understand.
In the story of Genesis, we find a egotistical plight of two individuals whose greatest gift is created from an act of disobeying that parental figure they have been given. Through an act of trickery, they develop that sense of I, Ego (Edging God Out) if you will, that allows them to know their true nature. They become exposed to themselves for the first time, cover up, yet see the world anew, from a new form of consciousness.
Does this plight sound familiar? It’s something we all undertake to become adults.
I remember as a child having dreams where I would be called to the schoolmaster’s chalkboard to answer a question, only to find mid way through that I was naked. Anyone else have a dream that is similar? Yes, of course many have… this type of dream represents this form of consciousness emerging, When Ego consciousness emerges, it initiates the slow descent into adult drudgery, promising the psyche individual freedom at the expense of loosing insight into the true nature of reality.
As Einstein said, we don’t even know a thousandth of 1 percent of the true capacity nature reveals to us. I would go one step further, I doubt we know even 1/1000 of a percent of what makes the true beauty of a tree let alone the majesty of the forest we may have the privilege to walk within. That form of consciousness hits us at a primal level, that level of looking up to the heavens from the valley in which we were created.
Emerson knew of this. That was his secret genius that moved his soul to produce some of the greatest works of all time. Gratitude is finding the path back to that secret genius, that dreamer within that is willing to take a first step, and advance confidently in the direction those dreams will take them.
