Finding Inner Peace and Well-being

Inner Peace and Wellbeing

What is inner peace? There is a secret to our peace and well-being. But it is not what you think. Many may find it in body movement, running, physical activities, meditation, worship, prayer, or others. Still, I liken peace and well-being to a dance, where the tensions between the protagonist and antagonist that pull at us create the space needed for the serenity to emerge.

Personal well-being and peace strongly correlate to the Eastern philosophies of the Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi, and the Dali Lama, but it is not entirely an Eastern notion. Being a state of being, not solely of the mind, the ideals behind peace and well-being transcend categorical thought and act as a unifying force between spiritual, physiological, and mental (cognitive and emotional) well-being.

Balance between body, mind, and spirit creates an inner road for well-being to emerge. When in equilibrium, these three forces of intrapsychic development allow meridians of energy to flow freely to promote more realized states of consciousness.

While Western notions of peace primarily concern a lack of conflict, in Eastern philosophies, the ideal of peace is more congruent to a state of mind and the inner landscape of consciousness versus an external form of contention. While no consensus exists regarding the nature of peace and well-being, due primarily to it being tied intimately to our personal development, we can see some inroads into how one’s inner state can affect one’s external reality.

Just imagine, for one minute, that you wake up in a foul mood. Will your day go well? Most likely not. That is because the internal state affects the ways you perceive external reality. Your mindset creates and represents a negative feedback loop in this case, where negativity feeds back upon itself as an amplifying force to recreate one’s internal state of conflict, only this time from a much louder perspective. No wonder a society in confrontation, which is dependent upon a majority of dissentious individuals, tends to recapitulate and amplify the present friction present. So, how do we find inner peace?

How to Find Inner Peace?

How can we create a sense of peace, that calm place that will allow us to escape the darkness of the information onslaught so familiar in today’s external landscape?

Forgiveness: To forgive is to let go. You cannot take back past wrongs. Why get burned holding onto that hot stone of conflict when you can let go and let God? To let go creates movement towards a state of well-being. By not focusing on the past, you make room in the present moment to develop future outcomes. Does the wake drive the ship, or do you? The choice is yours to make. Forgive, and let go of the yoke’s weight that you carry.

Self-care: To take care of one’s self, body, mind, and spirit creates inroads for intrapersonal peace and well-being. As stated above, a balance of energy is critical to developing inroads where well-being can emerge. To find well-being is a practice and not a destination.

Physical exercise is imperative. It releases endorphins into the body, which are our feel-good agents. Cognitive and emotional challenges are paramount. They keep the mind sharp and occupied. When we occupy the mind, time goes by. Our body takes our mind to the destinations it needs to experience, so it is imperative to direct it with vision.

Create a Vision: Where are you going? Why do you need to get there? How do you get where you need to be? Here are a few questions that can lead you to a personal vision. By creating a destination, you initiate work for yourself at the moment, which can assist you in finding that state of inner peace and well-being.

It all starts with a dream and culminates with a winning attitude. By dreaming, we open the imagination to new realms of possibility and wonder. We must then find inspiration. Who or what inspires you to be the best you can be? From there, we can plan, chart a course, and navigate to that wonderous dream created to realize the brevity of the vision we once aspired to.

How does this relate to personal well-being? By realizing dreams, we engage with inner success narratives that foster a sense of accomplishment, allowing the soul a foundation to stabilize versus dwelling on negative feedback loops we have yet to realize.

Mindfulness for Inner Peace?

Meditation for inner peace and mindful well-being is imperative. You may ask, how do I find peace and well-being? Meditate and go within to learn and grow in your wellness habits.

There are many forms of meditation. You can learn many from books, audio guides, or YouTube videos that will show beautiful scenes accompanied by serene music or have a guided adventure with a personal meditation coach where you will explore one aspect of this ancient art. Below is a transcript and video I prepared that you may practice anytime. It is free, and please feel free to comment, share, or ask questions that you may have.

Hello. I am Dr. Maples, and welcome to our guided meditation and affirmation that Honors the Inner Voice. I am grateful that you joined me here today, and I hope this brief exploration of your inner voice can help bring the light of healing to your body, mind, and spirit. Let us begin.

Sit in a comfortable position with your eyes closed.

Take a few deep breaths and allow your body to relax.

Focus on your breath and let go of all other thoughts.

Imagine yourself surrounded by light.

Allow the light to fill you with love.

Now imagine the inner voice that has always accompanied you in this life.

Can you feel it? Is it there?

If it is critical, let it find words of encouragement and joy. Let it guide you to what you need to find inner peace.

Like the rain pours from the sky, to become the river, to flow to the ocean, to once again become the rain, let your inner voice guide you to the destination it needs to be in this moment.

Feel the rain wash away the chatter within. Can you feel that heaviness lift from you?

Allow the light of love to fill you up with compassion and understanding.

Finally, imagine letting go of all the negative thoughts within.

Let your inner voice ignite the light of love and fill you with compassion to move toward your inner passions.

Take a few deep breaths, and when you’re ready, open your eyes.

Thank you for joining me today. May blessings find you on your journey to honor and be guided by your inner light so that you may advance confidently in the direction of your dreams.
