It is often that first step that complicates things the most. The way the mind is built, is to analyze all the “what ifs” that could ever exist, so that we can possibly shield ourselves from the possibility of hidden dangers. The only problem with this method of existence, it creates analysis paralysis
What is analysis paralysis?
A root emotion taught to us early in life is fear. Our parents literally instilled it into us when they would yell to look both ways before we cross the street, or would gently encourage us not to touch the hot stove. They were well meaning in their intent… for the first few years of life are a pretty dangerous undertaking.
Children know nothing of the hidden dangers of the world, yet have an instinctively inquisitive mind that truly is the inner gold all adults should strive for. While our parents taught us to fear that which could harm us, it is our job as adults to wane ourselves from those fears and begin to see the world for the grand creation it is, and experiment with our place in its glory.
There are two root causes of nearly all mental health problems in this country. Stress (external) and inflammation (internal). Both are mutual dependent. The root emotion underlying both is fear, which can manifest in general anxiousness, anger, and sadness. Most people I have met seek to find “happiness.” But what is this. For what makes us happy today, may not make us happy tomorrow. And what made us happy yesterday, may loose its effect on us as it becomes the status quo of today. The solution to this problem may seem complex, yet it is relatively simple.
Set a vision, plan, believe, and move towards its realization. The dream can never stop, it is the premise of the Self we are striving to realize. As Mark Twain said, the true secret to getting ahead in life is to stop talking, stop worrying, and start doing. This age old wisdom finds even more ancient origins in the saying from Confucius, who reminds us that it is not a race of speed, but a race of longevity. Tortoise and the Hare anyone?
